Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested one suspect and recovered a locally fabricated pistol, live cartridge, and suspected illicit drugs during an intelligence-led operation in the Bodija area of Ibadan.
The incident occurred on Saturday, at about 9:30 p.m. along Oshuntokun Avenue, Bodija, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
Mr Olayinka, a deputy superintendent of police, said police officers attached to the Bodija Housing Police Division were conducting a stop-and-search operation when they intercepted three men riding a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number DTN 678 QA.
During the search, he said one of the suspects threw a small bag into a nearby drainage, while two others fled the scene with the motorcycle.
“The third suspect, Hammed Lateef ‘m’, was arrested.

“A search of the discarded bag led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol, one live cartridge, sachets of substances suspected to be Tramadol, and a passport photograph believed to belong to one of the fleeing suspects,” the police said.

The command said the investigation is ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to identify, track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Olugbenga, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-led policing and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police.
