The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) says the Dangote Petroleum Refinery produced 47.22 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) per day in September, with 28.5 million litres supplied to the domestic market.
NMDPRA disclosed this in its September 2026 ‘State of the Midstream and Downstream Fact Sheet’.
The data released on Thursday show that the refinery exported 15.47 million litres per day during the period.
According to the data, total daily production from the 650,000 barrels-per-day facility stood at 47.22 million litres per day, while domestic receipts accounted for 28.50 million litres.
For Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), the refinery production was 24.32 million litres per day, domestic receipts 8.14 million litres, and exports 15.91 million litres.
For Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK), production was 26.13 million litres per day, with exports of 23.25 million litres per day.
These show that while petrol supply tilted towards the domestic market, accounting for about 60 per cent of the refinery’s total output for the month, diesel (AGO) and jet fuel (ATK) were largely export-oriented.
“Petrol evacuation (domestic and export) ran 3.25 ml/d below production, raising closing stock. AGO and ATK exports outperformed domestic supplies. Petrol exports represented 35.2 per cent of refinery evacuation,” NMDPRA said.
State-owned refineries performance
The NMDPRA report shows that Nigeria’s four state-owned refineries produced zero in September. It said the Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna refineries did not produce throughout the period.

Modular refineries
On modular refineries, the report said Waltersmith Refinery posted an average capacity utilisation of 62.25 per cent with AGO production of 0.29 ml/d and AGO domestic supply of 0.31 ml/d.
Edo Refinery posted an average capacity utilisation of 104.24 per cent with AGO production of 0.09ml/d and AGO domestic supply of 0.09ml/d, while ARADEL recorded 31.90 per cent utilisation with AGO production of 0.14ml/d and supplied an average of 0.12ml/d of AGO.
It noted that OPAC posted an average capacity utilisation of 18.43 per cent with AGO production of 0.14ml/d and AGO domestic supply of 0.11ml/d, adding that Duport was shut down.
“Modular refineries supplied 4.3 per cent of domestic AGO consumption in September. Aradel and OPAC operated below optimal capacity due to feedstock challenges and maintenance shutdowns,” it said.
Petrol consumption
The official data from the regulator show that Nigeria’s daily petrol consumption rose to 44.4 million litres in September, up by 7 per cent from the 41.5 million litres recorded in August.

NMDPRA indicated that petrol truck-out recovered from a 13-month low in August, though it remained below the 13-month average.
“Petrol truck-out recovered to 44.4 ml/d from August’s 13-month low of 41.5 ml/d, but remains below the 13-month mean,” it said.
The regulator said Nigeria’s energy-sector transformation is progressing, with domestic refining contributing about 65 per cent of the national petrol requirement (consumption) in September 2026, and about 74 per cent of receipts, supplemented by 26 per cent of imports.

“Priority gas projects have reached significant mileage, with the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline at 84 per cent completion as of September 2026. A more reliable energy future. Together, these developments support efforts to build a more reliable and sustainable energy future,” it said.
