The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) said the national grid experienced multiple trippings on the 330kV transmission network on Monday.

In a statement on Monday, NISO said the incident occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m.

According to the operator, it immediately commenced corrective measures in collaboration with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to stabilise the system.

“Restoration efforts have been successfully completed, and the national grid has returned to normal operation,” NISO said.

NISO said the incident affected only a section of the grid, contrary to reports on social media that the grid had collapsed.

“NISO wishes to clarify that the incident affected only a section of the grid, contrary to unverified reports and claims currently circulating in the media,” the statement said.

It advised the public to disregard misleading information and rely on its official channels for accurate and verified updates on grid status.

NISO said it remains committed to maintaining grid stability and ensuring reliable operation of the national transmission system.
