Nigeria’s 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) generated N204.74 billion in combined revenue in January 2026, the latest factsheet by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has shown.

The January 2026 commercial performance factsheet released by the regulator on Wednesday highlighted the financial health and efficiency of DisCos, including the new Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) loss targets.

NERC said a total of N204.74 billion was collected by all DisCos in January 2026, out of the N268.20 billion billed to customers, representing a 76.34 per cent collection efficiency, a 2.07 percentage point decrease from December.

It said DisCos received N336.43 billion in energy, with N268.20 billion billed to customers, representing an 79.72 per cent billing efficiency, a 3.21 percentage point decrease from December.

As for the ATC&C loss targets, the commission said it approved reduced targets for 2026 (averaging 16.92 per cent) to reflect the expected impact of DisCo investments made in 2025.

The report shows that out of the N124.30k allowed average tariff/kWh, the actual average collection/kWh was N85.97k, leading to a recovery efficiency of 69.16 per cent across all DisCos, an 8.10 percentage point decrease from the previous month.

Eko (87.92 per cent), Ikeja (81.64 per cent), delivered strong recovery performance. Abuja (75.02 per cent), Port Harcourt (73.90 per cent), Benin (63.46 per cent), Enugu (63.17 per cent), recorded moderate recovery levels.
