Nigeria recorded 2,731 road traffic crashes in the fourth quarter of 2025, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said.
This, the bureau said, represents an increase of 12.20 per cent compared to the 2,434 crashes recorded in Q3 2025, and a 6.72 per cent increase relative to the 2,559 crashes recorded in the corresponding period of 2024 (Q4 2024).
The NBS disclosed this in its ‘Road Transport Data Q4 2025’ published on Wednesday.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is the government agency with statutory responsibilities for road safety administration across Nigeria.
“In Q4 2025, a total of 2,731 road traffic crashes were recorded. This represents an increase of 12.20 per cent compared to the 2,434 crashes recorded in Q3 2025, and a 6.72 per cent increase relative to the 2,559 crashes recorded in the corresponding period of 2024 (Q4 2024),” the NBS said.
It said serious crashes accounted for the highest proportion with 1,775 cases, followed by fatal crashes with 677 cases, while minor crashes recorded the least with 279 cases.
Gender analysis
The NBS said fatalities by gender indicate that males accounted for the majority of deaths.
“A total of 1,085 males were killed, representing 78.97 per cent of total fatalities, while 289 females were killed, accounting for 21.03 per cent,” it said.
During the period under review, it said 6,561 males were injured, accounting for 75.19 per cent of the total injured persons, while 2,165 females were injured, representing 24.81 per cent.

Vehicles involved
It explained that the number of vehicles involved in road traffic crashes stood at 4,059 in Q4 2025, indicating an increase of 9.41 per cent compared to the 3,710 vehicles recorded in Q3 2025.
Zonal distribution
In terms of zonal distribution, it said the South-West recorded the highest number of crashes with 763 cases, followed by the North-Central with 744 cases, while the South-South recorded the least with 152 cases.
With respect to casualties, it added that the North-Central zone recorded the highest number with 2,649 casualties, followed by the North-West with 2,497 casualties, while the South-South recorded the least with 420 casualties.
