The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at promoting electrical safety, enforcing technical standards, and enhancing efficient electricity utilisation in Nigeria.

The Head, Public Affairs Unit of NEMSA, Ama Umoren, in a statement on Sunday, said the renewed commitment was expressed during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of APGC, Joy Ogaji, to the headquarters of NEMSA in Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, according to the statement, Mrs Ogaji commended NEMSA’s regulatory role in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), particularly in enforcing technical standards and inspecting electrical installations, and certification of electricity meters and instruments.

She noted that these functions remain fundamental to ensuring the safety, reliability, and sustainability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

She emphasised the need for increased public awareness of NEMSA’s activities to promote compliance with established standards.

“Greater visibility of the agency’s work would encourage compliance with established standards and ultimately promote the efficient use of electricity across the country,” she said.

He noted that sustained collaboration among sector players remains vital in advancing the shared goal of strengthening Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure while safeguarding lives and property through effective inspection, testing, and certification of electrical installations and equipment.

The statement said the visit underscores the importance of strategic partnerships among key institutions within the power sector in driving reforms, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring a safe and sustainable electricity supply for Nigerians.

According to the statement, Mrs Ogaji was accompanied on the visit by Sunday Adelake, Technical Aide to the Managing Director of Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL).
