The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, implementing the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions in Nigeria.
NEMSA, Public Affairs Unit, Ama Umoren, in a statement on Wednesday, said a high-level delegation from GIZ, led by Milot Karid, paid a courtesy visit to NEMSA’s headquarters in Abuja, emphasising the ongoing collaboration between the two institutions.
The visit, according to the statement, aimed to strengthen the partnership by focusing on renewable energy development, regulatory standards, and capacity building in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Mr Karid, congratulated the leadership of NEMSA and reiterated their commitment to sustaining the strong partnership that existed between the two institutions over the years.
He highlighted the significant milestones achieved through the collaboration, including the successful development of the guidelines for the inspection and certification of solar mini-grids in Nigeria.
“The partnership has also supported targeted capacity-building initiatives for NEMSA personnel, aimed at strengthening the agency’s technical capabilities in ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards within Nigeria’s growing renewable energy sector,” the statement said.

He expressed appreciation to GIZ and the European Union for their continued support toward strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.
He added that the next steps, as the collaboration continues, will be the formal launch of the guidelines and deeper collaboration in advancing renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, and rural electrification in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) is a technical assistance programme co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power.
“Both organisations reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions, improving standards in renewable energy deployment, and supporting Nigeria’s transition to a safe, efficient, and sustainable electricity sector,” the statement said.
