The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) said it has initiated a strategic collaboration with the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) aimed at strengthening safety, standardisation, and quality assurance within Nigeria’s rapidly expanding renewable energy sector.

The Head, Public Affairs Unit of NEMSA, Ama Umoren, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Mrs Umoren said the REAN delegation, led by its President, Ayo Ademilola, paid a courtesy visit to NEMSA’s headquarters in Abuja where they were received by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Olusegun Adesayo, alongside members of the agency’s management team.

Speaking during the visit, according to the statement, Mr Ademilola emphasised REAN’s commitment to promoting strict adherence to technical standards and safe practices across the renewable energy industry.

He stated that under the proposed collaboration, REAN and NEMSA will work together to identify, develop, and implement applicable technical standards for renewable energy installations across the country.

“The partnership will also support the development and periodic review of a renewable energy construction and installation guideline manual aimed at promoting uniformity, safety, and regulatory compliance in renewable energy deployment nationwide.

“The collaboration will also focus on capacity building and knowledge sharing through structured training programmes, technical workshops, and professional development initiatives designed to enhance the competence of renewable energy practitioners and ensure strict compliance with established technical standards,” the statement said.

In addition, it said both organisations will work closely on policy engagement and regulatory coordination to ensure that renewable energy installations in Nigeria are carried out only by certified professionals in line with national safety and quality requirements.

“The partnership will further include stakeholder engagement and public awareness campaigns to educate consumers and industry players on the importance of certified renewable energy installations for improved safety, reliability, and sustainability.”

In his remarks, Mr Adesayo reaffirmed NEMSA’s statutory mandate to enforce technical standards and ensure the safety of electrical installations nationwide.

He noted that collaboration with industry bodies such as REAN is critical to maintaining high standards as Nigeria continues to expand its renewable energy footprint.

“Both organisations also expressed commitment to promoting research and innovation in emerging areas such as e-mobility and other sustainable energy technologies in support of Nigeria’s transition to cleaner and more efficient energy solutions,” the statement said.
