APP dissolves Imo executive committee, appoints interim caretaker

The Action Peoples Party (APP) has dissolved the Imo State executive committee and appointed an interim caretaker committee ahead of the state congress.

The party disclosed this in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Uchenna Nnadi, on Monday.

“Ahead of the Imo APP state congress, the National leadership of APP, led by Uchenna Nnadi, after an emergency NWC meeting, has announced the dissolution of the Imo APP state executive committee of the party and constituted an 8-man interim caretaker committee to oversee the party ahead of the state congresses fixed for March 24th 2026,” the letter read.

The committee, comprising seasoned party members and former executives, has been tasked with working closely with stakeholders to complete the ongoing membership registration, admit new stakeholders, and prepare the party for the ward, local government area, zonal, and state congresses.

“The committee’s task is to work with stakeholders to ensure the conclusion of the ongoing membership registration of the party, admittance of new stakeholders, and preparation of the party ahead of the Ward, L.G.A, Zonal and State congresses to usher in new executives of the party,” it said.

The Interim Caretaker Committee members include Ernest Njesi as Chairman, Emeka Onwukwe as Secretary, Henry Alaribe, Deputy Chairman, Owerri zone, Ogemdi Ezeonye, Deputy Chairman, Orlu zone.

Others are: Ernest Ezirim, Deputy Chairman, Okigwe zone; Uche Nwosu, Legal Adviser; Cajethan Duke, Publicity Secretary; and Peter Etoh, Treasurer.

Similarly, the party has officially written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), notifying the commission of its readiness to conduct congresses at ward, local government and state levels.

A letter dated 2 March 2026, seen by ThePreview Media, addressed to the INEC Chairman and signed by the party’s National Chairman and the National Secretary, Abu Ibrahim Bossan, conveyed the party’s notification in line with statutory requirements for a 21-day notice.

“We write to notify the commission of the party’s proposed state congresses across all levels of our party in line with relevant statutory provisions, which mandate political parties to notify the commission with at least 21 days’ notice of political parties’ congresses.”

According to the letter, the congresses will be held on 24, 26 and 28 March at the ward, local government and state levels respectively.
