The average retail price paid by consumers for petrol was down 11.81 per cent in December 2025, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said.
The bureau said this in its “Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch” for December 2025 released on Wednesday.
The NBS said the average retail price paid by consumers for petrol for December 2025 was N1,048.63, indicating a 11.81 per cent decrease compared to the value recorded in December 2024 (N1,189.12).
The bureau also said that comparing the average price value with that of the previous month (i.e., November 2025), the average retail price decreased by 1.20 per cent from N1061.35.

On state profile analysis, the bureau said, Kogi state had the highest average retail price for petrol at N1,104.45. Imo and Yobe states were next, with N1,086.26 and N1,081.80, respectively.
It said Oyo, Kebbi and Nasarawa states had the lowest average retail prices for petrol at N996.55, N1,003.08, and N1,011.05, respectively.
On the zonal profile, the NBS said the North East zone had the highest average retail price of N1,073.67, while the South West zone had the lowest price of N1,029.51.
