The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has warned customers to disregard a fraudulent message circulating on social media claiming that customers can receive 30 per cent extra units on prepaid meter recharges through unofficial channels.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the DisCo said the message did not originate from the company and is false.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fraudulent message circulating on social media claiming that customers can receive 30 per cent extra units on prepaid meter recharges through unofficial channels,” YEDC said.
“Customers are advised to disregard this information, as it did not originate from YEDC and is false.”

The company said it does not offer bonus units through individuals, agents, personal accounts, phone numbers, or social media contacts.
It advised customers to only purchase electricity tokens through approved cashless payment channels such as YEDC Pay App, OPay, Interswitch and other authorised vending platforms, or visit the nearest YEDC office for assistance.
YEDC further cautioned customers not to share their meter details, personal information, or make payments to unauthorised persons claiming to represent the company.
It urged customers to rely only on information published through its official communication channels.
“Please do not share your meter details, personal information, or make payments to unauthorised persons claiming to represent YEDC,” it said.
