The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has apologised to customers over delays in the generation and delivery of prepaid meter tokens following a recent upgrade of its customer platforms.

In a notice to customers on Sunday, the company said some customers may experience delays in receiving prepaid meter tokens despite successful payments.

“Dear Valued Customers, Following the recent upgrade of our MyPower Customer App and Self-Service platforms, some customers may experience delays in receiving prepaid meter tokens despite successful payments,” AEDC said.

The company assured that all successful payments have been duly recorded, and that outstanding tokens are being processed.

It said all affected customers will receive their tokens no later than 11:59 p.m. on Friday, 6 November.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience, understanding and continued trust as we work to improve your customer experience,” the company added.

Prepaid meter customers buy electricity units in advance and receive a token, usually a 20-digit code, which they load onto their meters to access power.

A delay in token delivery means that even after payment, affected customers may be unable to recharge their meters, leaving them at risk of running out of electricity before the token arrives.

AEDC is one of Nigeria’s 11 electricity distribution companies, covering the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi and Niger states.

The company recently upgraded its MyPower Customer App and Self-Service platforms as part of efforts to improve customer experience and streamline token purchases, bill payments and complaints handling.
