The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced rehabilitation of four vandalised towers along the Afam-IPP – Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line.
The incident was discovered on 6 August 2026 by the company’s line engineers from the Port Harcourt Region, TCN said in an update on Monday.
According to the company, towers T50 to T53 were affected, with their tower members removed and carted away.
TCN said the attack is the fifth vandalism incident on the same line in recent times.

“As rehabilitation work progresses, we enjoin all stakeholders to join hands to curb the menace that is threatening the stability of the national grid,” the statement signed by TCN management said.
Vandalism of transmission infrastructure remains a major challenge to grid stability, often causing power outages and high repair costs for the federal government-owned utility.
TCN has repeatedly appealed to host communities, security agencies, and state governments to support efforts to protect critical power installations nationwide.
