The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has raised concerns over fraudulent individuals posing as its Commission Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, on various social media platforms.
The NUPRC Head of Corporate Communications and Media, Eniola Akinkuotu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Mr Akinkuotu said so far, 15 of such fake accounts have been identified by the Commission on X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok.
The commission added that the accounts are being used by unscrupulous individuals to defraud members of the public, noting that anyone who interacts with the fake accounts does so at his or her own risk.

“The matter has also been reported to the appropriate authorities. For the sake of clarity, the NUPRC states that Mrs Eyesan has only one social media account which is a verified page on LinkedIn.
“The unscrupulous individuals impersonating the Commission Chief Executive with the intention of defrauding members of the public are hereby warned to desist immediately.
“Anyone who interacts with these fake accounts does so at his or her own risk. For inquiries or clarification on the NUPRC’s activities, visit the Commission’s official website www.nuprc.gov.ng,” the statement said.
In recent years, cases of impersonation fraud targeting senior government officials have been on the rise, with fraudsters often using the names and images of these officials to solicit money and promote fake investments, among other scams.
