The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) generated N1.60 billion revenue from passengers in the fourth quarter of 2025, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said.
This, the bureau said, represents a decrease of 16.30 per cent from the N1.92 billion recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.
The NBS disclosed this in its Rail Transportation Data Q4 2025, released on Thursday.
“In terms of revenue generation, N1.60 billion was received from passengers during the reference period, showing a decrease of 16.30 per cent from the N1.92 billion recorded in the same quarter of the previous year,” the NBS said.
Giving a breakdown of passenger traffic, it said, in Q4 2025, a total of 940,476 passengers travelled via the rail system relative to 1,037,113 reported in the corresponding quarter of 2024, indicating a decrease of 9.32 per cent.

The NBS added that the volume of goods/cargo transported via rail in Q4 2025 stood at 110,480 tons compared to 94,750 tons recorded in Q4 2024.
Similarly, it said N397.82 million was collected from goods/cargo conveyed via rail in Q4 2025, a 1.58 per cent increase from the N391.64 million received in Q4 2024.
“Other receipts amounted to N75.89 million, indicating a decrease of 82.53 per cent in Q4 2025 from the N434.44 million received in Q4 2024,” it said.
