The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), Adesegun Akin-Olugbade, has said staff training and development are critical to achieving the organisation’s mandate of strengthening Nigeria’s electricity system.
NISO, in a statement on Monday, said Mr Akin-Olugbade disclosed this while addressing staff undergoing training at NISO headquarters in Abuja.
He said equipping employees with requisite skills and knowledge is essential to improving system efficiency and operational performance.
The board chair reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to creating an enabling work environment for staff to thrive and urged employees to approach him directly with any concerns.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NISO, Abdu Mohammed, said the ongoing programme is the sixth batch of System Operators training.

Mr Mohammed said NISO’s capacity-building initiatives cut across all categories of staff and are designed to boost morale and improve professional competence.
Also speaking, the lead facilitator, Rotimi Amos of Szotyola Energy, commended the Board and Management of NISO for prioritising knowledge transfer.
Mr Amos, however, called for sustenance of the training programme.

NISO, recently unbundled from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), is responsible for system operation, market operation and coordination of Nigeria’s electricity grid.
